Hiring the Best Follow-ups

When I say “selling”, I’m not talking about the greasy, slick salesman kind of way.

Instead I’m wondering if you are doing everything in your power to help others understand what you do and how you can help them.

Do you share stories about your success in helping a client?

When a client tells you that you went above and beyond their expectations, do you have the courage to ask them if they would be willing to give you a testimonial or recommend someone else you might be able to help?

Here’s another great example:

If someone walks into your business, instead of saying – “how can I help you?” Have you instead ever tried to ask ask…”what brings you in today?” Once you get to know WHY they are visiting you, you can cater your offerings for exactly what they need.

These are just a few of my favorite techniques that often lead to growing business with an existing client and finding new ones along the way, too.

Selling takes COURAGE and it starts with you first believing that you have gifts and talents that others need AND that you have done the best job to find and attract the customers who you can help.

Top selling opportunities are right in front of you. Often they provide great moments when people may ask you questions like….”so tell me what you do” or “what is it that you are working on right now?”

Some examples:

-the dentist chair
-t-ball practice
-family reunions
-church dinners
-the county fair

In these moments are you prepared with your 30-second commercial that speaks to how you help people? AND even more importantly, are you prepared to ask the person that you just met if they could use your services?

Part of selling is also the act of following-up. If you had a conversation with someone who asks for more information, what’s your process for following up? If you answer is that you don’t have one, then now is the time to build an iron clad process of following up with your clients.

Even more importantly, if someone gave you an earth shattering idea on how to grow your business, have you taken the necessary steps to act on that advice? If not, did you at least take the time to thank them for the idea and keep them in the loop on your progress?

Many business owners have great ideas but many more fall short because they forget the importance of selling and incorporating the language, tools, and rigorous process of following up.
