I love entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs are the people who have the courage and drive to solve some of today’s biggest challenges.
Successful entrepreneurs are those who have lived the ups and downs but found a way to create more ups than downs to actually stay in business. Being an entrepreneur has plenty of rewards, but it also comes with many hardships.
It’s like buying an expensive ticket to get on a roller coaster and riding that coaster not knowing what adventure or calamity is awaiting you next.
I was recently asked a question that really got me thinking.
The question was, “what is the best piece of advice you could offer someone thinking about starting a business?”
Here’s my answer: If you want to start a business, ask yourself if someone already in that business would hire you to run theirs. If the answer is no, I would be cautious about the venture.
If the answer is YES – go do it!
There are a lot of people who have big ideas. And you’ll meet plenty of people who want all of the rewards of owning a business but don’t want to work for it.
Then you’ll meet people who think they know how to run a business but don’t act quick enough to change and react as they learn more about what their customers want.
The best advice you can provide someone thinking about starting a business is asking them if they have confidence that someone would hire them to run theirs.
That’s one of the best pieces of advice I have ever been given and reminds me that I need to work harder and better to make sure that my skills and work ethic are properly aligned.
How about you? What’s the best piece of business advice you have ever been given?
I’d love to hear!
