That secret is…SMILING.
Why is this secret “fun” you ask? Well, let’s face it; it’s the moments when we are smiling that we are looking and feeling our best.
If you were to ask someone who knows me well to describe who I am, undoubtedly one of the first things they will say is that I am someone who usually carries a smile. This is something that I typically laugh about as it has been mentioned numerous times throughout my life.
Here are a few quick reminders of the power of SMILE.
1. Quite Simply, Smiles Feel Good – when we are smiling, we are usually having a much better day than when we are not. Research has shown that smiling releases a chemical called serotonin – a neurotransmitter that produces feelings of happiness and wellbeing. It’s like a circle of positivity. Smile and you feel happy, you feel happy and you smile. Even when you’re not feeling great, try smiling genuinely and you’ll start feeling better.
2. Smiles Build Relationships – FASTER – when meeting new people, who is it that you gravitate to first? The person with the gruff frown or someone who has a beaming smile? Smiling is crucial when it comes to first impressions. It indicates to the other person that you are genuinely happy to see them and that you are a positive person. A great way to leave a lasting first impression.
3. Smiles Will Enhance Your Business – who would you rather buy something from? The salesperson that looks bored, down, angry, and bothered or the salesperson that is happy to see you? It’s amazing how many stores I walk into that miss this very important concept. It’s valuable to remember that smiling EVEN when you are speaking on the phone can be heard and felt too.
